USA Trip – 2009
26th September, 2009
This afternoon, after spending the morning in Manhattan, I decided to visit nearby Jersey City. I had no real purpose, only just to take a bit of a walk around and maybe take some photographs. So I hopped on a PATH service to Hoboken station. After leaving the station, I found myself walking along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. It wasn’t too long before I came across a September 11 memorial. Quite a sombre experience, so I’ll let the pictures explain.
After spending a bit of time at the memorial site, I continued to walk along the waterfront. It was a relatively cool day for the time of year, but quite comfortable. I came across a light rail line, so decided to hop on for a couple of stops. For someone who loves railways (including trams and light rail), silly me forgot to take any photographs of the light rail vehicle. I made my way around to Liberty State Park, stopping in view of Ellis Island. Once a place where immigrants were processed upon arrival in the United States, it is now an immigration museum. I made a note to one day visit it.
I walked around behind the old railway station. Again, silly me, didn’t take any photographs of the front of the station – only one from more or less side on.
It was getting on a bit in the afternoon and would be dark in about an hour’s time. So I wondered back up to Hoboken station and caught a PATH train into Manhattan. After finding my way to Times Square, I took a few more photographs to round out the day.
