Bucket List

People create lists all the time. We can’t help it. I guess it gives us a sense of order, or a measure of achievement. One of these lists is usually a bucket list, which could be ‘1000 things to be done before I die’. Well, this is my bucket list, that I’m putting together, for my extended round the world trip. It is a work in progress, as new things will be added over time.

  • The coin toss at the start of a Boxing Day Test Match, at the MCG, in Melbourne.
  • The coin toss at the start of an AFL Grand Final.
  • Skydiving – already done! But want to do it again.
  • Walk (or cycle) the entire Camino de Santiago/The Way of St. James
  • SCUBA diving. As I’m mildly epileptic, it’s unlikely to ever be crossed off.
  • Travel remains of Route 66. Looks like my route will cover parts of that!
  • Watch a rocket launch into space.
  • Fly in to Lukla, Nepal.
  • Visit the North Pole (unlikely, but never impossible).
  • Take a boat along the Elbląg Canal. I will also be cycling alongside parts of it.
  • Hire a narrow boat and travel along some of England’s canals.
  • Ride in a hot air balloon.
  • Take a boat down (or up) the Yangtze.
  • Enter the Papa (Ernest Hemingway) lookalike competition in Key West, Florida.
  • Drive a tank.
  • Flight 93 memorial near Shankesville, Pennsylvania.
  • Climb Mt. Rinjani.
  • Paragliding.
  • Visit the Salina Turda Salt Mine, Romania.
  • Tromsø, Norway – for midnight sun in summer, and Aurora Borealis in winter.
  • Hell, Norway.
  • Travel by boat down the Urubamba (including the Pongo de Manseriche) & Ucayali Rivers, and into the Amazon River.
  • See Victoria Falls.
  • Sahara Desert and Atlas Mountains.
  • Follow the Hemingway trail.
  • Travel along the Trans-Siberian Railway.
  • Climb Mt. Fuji.
  • Climb Mt. Kilimanjaro.
  • Visit the South Pole – unlikely, as extremely expensive.
  • Go into space, and hopefully leave Earth orbit. This is likely more improbable than visiting the South Pole.
  • Cedar Point, Ohio – bring on the roller coasters!
  • Cradle Mountain, Tasmania.
  • Mt. Field National Park, Tasmania.
  • Glasshouse Mountains, Queensland.
  • Uluru (Ayers Rock).
  • Travel by train, across the Central Andes, from Lima to Huancayo.
  • Glenfinnan Viaduct, Scotland (Harry Potter fans will recognise that one).
  • Ride The Transfăgărășan, Romania.
  • Cross an ocean by yacht. Ideally across the South Atlantic, from Cape Town, South Africa, to Rio de  Janeiro, Brazil.
  • Daintree Rainforest and Mossman Gorge.
  • Plitvice Lakes National Park, Croatia.
  • Hike up Table Mountain, South Africa (if possible).
  • Attend an Ashes test match at Lord’s.
