Cycle Against the Beast – 2017
Day 5 – 24th May, 2017
Heavy, heavy rain woke me up in the early hours of the morning. Thankfully, it had stopped by the time I was scheduled to leave. Yesterday, I had decided to take a rest day in Yass. But there were no available rooms in Yass, due to a big car rally coming through. So, I made the decision to carry on to Cootamundra today.
It was very tough to get going, this morning, due to rather strong headwinds. Even downhill runs were quite slow. And then the weather started closing in again. So, I made the decision to start flagging down those heading in my direction. Instead of going to Cootamundra, I decided to go to Gundagai instead. After about half an hour sticking my thumb out, a Tasmanian-bound driver stopped and agreed to take me to Gundagai.
I’ve decided to spend a couple of days in Gundagai. South Gundagai, really, which is nothing much more than a truck stop. But that’s ok. On Saturday, I continue on to Wagga Wagga – back on my original course.
I didn’t really want to have to hitchhike to Gundagai. However, with bad weather, there really wasn’t much choice. I may be crazy, but I’m not stupid. 🙂
