On my way to Cronulla

It was a very wet start to the day. After making my way from home by train, I left South Cronulla Beach right on 09:00 with a very heavy bicycle. I decided to lighten the load after checking Qantas rates for additional baggage – not cheap! $280 for just five kilograms. I decided to offload my AV equipment, opting not to film this trip.

Due to persistent (and sometimes heavy) rain, progress was quite slow. Many of the cycle paths were covered by water in multiple sections. Suffice to say, my shoes were quite drenched. The narrow underpass at Canterbury Road was flooded – but the source was a stormwater drain. I chose to avoid it by taking a detour.

The detour to drop off my AV gear resulted in an additional 14 km. I took the advantage and bought a bacon and egg roll at the local cafe. I quickly carried on, as it was already after midday and I knew the rest of the day would be slow going. But it was a challenge to solve, rather than letting it frustrate me. To do so, invites doubt as to whether I can complete the ride. I put the pedal down to cover the distance as quickly as possible. Today was purely a distance day. Passing through Sydney Olympic Park, the contruct for Australian Ninja Warrior had been erected.

I bought a can of Coke at Canley Heights, while taking shelter from a heavy downpour – I needed the sugar hit. I was quite surprised how extensive the cycleway/shared paths were. They took me all the way out to Camden (with the exception of my detour), which is where I stayed for the evening. Hopefully tomorrow will be a little drier.

Cheers!
