Cycle Against the Beast – 2022
27th February, 2022

After yesterday’s killer of a ride, I have no idea how far I’d make it today. Ideally, I’d like to make it through to Mittagong or Bowral, but I’d be happy with Picton. I left far too late for my liking, but at least I didn’t start in the rain – but I knew it was on the forecast for the day.

A nice, easy ride out of town, as I already knew the way. I cycled through Camden back in 2017, on a previous ride to Melbourne. It wasn’t until about 10 km in that it started raining. Thankfully, it was only light rain. It was tough going up some of the steeper hills. I was carrying about 8 kg more and my body was four and a half years older. I’d also gained a few extra kilos as a result of lockdowns. Suffice to say, I’m a little out of form!

20 km in, I decided I’d stay in Picton tonight, so I made a booking. The downside to this is that I’ll now need to cover an average of 80 km a day, for the next five days, to make it to Temora in time, to take advantage of a rest day before joining Pedal Cure 4 MND. Added to that, there’s more rain forecast for the week.
