A couple of weeks ago, I wrote that I’d made a decision to cycle from Fremantle to Bondi Beach, during my long service leave next year. Earlier this week, I’d heard that the Western Australia border is not likely to open until at least the 1st of April, 2021 (after that state’s election, of course!). This puts a huge spanner in the works, as I was planning on starting almost four weeks earlier. So I had to make a decision as to whether to delay my trip, with no guarantee that the border will reopen in any decent amount of time. Or decide upon a different idea.
I’ve decided to fallback on my previous plan (with a few modifications), by cyling through New South Wales and Victoria. The change I have made is the extension of my ride into South Australia, covering Adelaide and Mount Gambier – a total of a little over 4,700 km. The ride will start and and at the Sydney Opera House. There is one big advantage of starting and ending in Sydney – I won’t have to box up my bike!
I’m not disappointed in not going ahead with my ride from Fremantle to Bondi. I can do that later, just as I had originally planned – during the final leg of my round the world bicycle trip.
